2017 'La Petite Vanguard', Semillon
Semillon sourced from the Woodside sub-region of the Adelaide Hills, South Australia.
“Colourful label. Looks like the winemaker crowd-surfing, and that would need a pretty robust crowd to achieve, I think. It’s from a vineyard in Woodside.
Lime and lemongrass, plenty of zip and crunch, juiciness with some restraint, a powdery texture, lime and snow pea on fresh and precise finish. Nicely done. A different, but very good expression of Semillon.”

The fruit was whole bunch foot crushed and held overnight in the cold room before pressing and cold settling in tank. This was then racked and inoculated with a ‘pied de cuve’ from the same vineyard. A cold (12-14 degrees) ferment took place in tank and made up about 80% of the final blend. The other component was made up from a more ‘solidsy’ barrel ferment. This gives the wine greater layers of texture, whilst maintaining racy flavours and mineral/citrus character.
This was then followed by a couple of rackings by gravity, and final blending before being bottled in August, without fining or filtration.
