VINEYARD AND WINERY
Planted circa year 2000 by the O’Callahan family. Now owned by the Pfeiffer family (Leanne and Matthew) and co-managed by Vanguardist, using all organic practices. Goblet/bush vines of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre are planted to just under 1Ha in total. At 250m altitude on soils that mostly comprises of red and yellow clay-loam.
The slightly cool, and medium rainfall season meant great hang time on the vine. Fruit intensity and natural acidity were as good as I had seen for the past four seasons that I have been working with the vineyard. Harvested by hand on the 26 February and completely de-stemmed in the winery. Spontaneous ferment and gentle hand plunging for 10 days before lock down, and a further 20 days of maceration prior to basket pressing the wine. Elevage occurred in a one year old 500L puncheon, and seasoned four year old 600L Demi-muid for a further nine months on full lees, prior to bottling without any fining or filtration.
