NAME:
‘Oeno’ derives from both the Evening Primrose (Oenothera Biennis) found in this vineyard, combined with the science dedicated to the study and knowledge of wines, Oenology. The vineyard boasts an altitude exceeding 200m above sea level. The top soil is pure sand, with clay and red ironstone pockets below the surface.
VINTAGE OVERVIEW:
The season began with significant challenges with high rainfall and strong winds during flowering. The latter part of the season turned dry, with sustained high temperatures and a notable February heatwave compressing the harvest window and concentrating the fruit. Despite these hurdles, the vintage has produced wines of excellent structure, depth, and palate length, with Syrah and Grenache in particular demonstrating their enduring resilience.
HARVEST:
Hand harvested on 29th February and 4th March. The yields were down from the 2023, averaging around 30HL/Ha. Slightly below the long-term average.
VINIFICATION:
- Whole bunch fermentation: 60%
- Elevage: The wine was aged in 1500L concrete sphere and french oak 500L puncheons for 15 months post-press.
- Blending: The final wine was bottled without fining or further additions.
